Security Situation, Turkey 1/12/2016

On the morning of January 12, 2016 at approximately 10:15 a.m. an explosion occurred near the Sultan Ahmet area in Istanbul. The U.S. Consulate General in Istanbul sent an emergency message with more information regarding the incident. http://adana.usconsulate.gov/sm-011216.html
Currently, there are no University of St. Thomas programs taking place in Turkey. Student safety is of the utmost importance to the Office of Study Abroad and the University of St. Thomas. We will continue to closely monitor the situation and provide updates here.

Security Situation, Istanbul Turkey: 3/19/16

On Saturday March 19, an explosive device was detonated by a suicide bomber in the tourist shopping area of Taksim Square in central Istanbul, Turkey. Tourist locations in Turkey have recently been targets for attacks, however there is no indication that specific nationalities are being targeted. Reports indicate that five people were killed and another 36 were injured in this attack. The U.S. Embassy in Ankara in Istanbul sent the following emergency message: http://turkey.usembassy.gov/em-031916.html encouraging U.S. citizens to maintain a high level of vigilance, to be aware of local events, and take the appropriate steps to bolster personal security.
All University of St. Thomas students currently in Turkey are safe and have been accounted for. Student safety is the number one priority of the Office of Study Abroad and The University of St. Thomas. We continue to monitor the situation closely in collaboration with our partners

Security Situation in Belgium 3/22/2016

On the morning of Tuesday, March 22 two explosions occurred at the Brussels Zavantem international airport in the north-east of the city. Just over an hour later another explosion occurred at the Maelbeek Subway station in the center of Brussels Belgium. Security measures have been increased in Belgium and other western European countries following the attacks. The US Department of State has updated a travel alert for Europe

The University of St. Thomas does not currently have students studying in Belgium. All students studying abroad are advised to pay close attention to any instruction or advisory communicated by on-site program staff.

Student safety is of the utmost importance to the Office of Study Abroad and the University of St. Thomas. We will continue to closely monitor the situation consulting our partners abroad and the U.S. Department of State.

Security Situation, Paris France 11/13:

On the evening of November 13, 2015, multiple attacks took place in Paris -- at the Bataclan concert hall, near the Stade de France stadium, and at restaurants in central Paris.
All students on University of St. Thomas programs in France are safe and have been accounted for. Student safety is of the utmost importance to the Office of Study Abroad and the University of St. Thomas. We will continue to closely monitor the situation consulting our partners abroad and the U.S. Department of State. University of St. Thomas students currently studying abroad are advised to pay close attention to any instruction or advisory communicated by on-site program staff and leadership.
