Program Summary

An MBA study-abroad course focused on the financial services industry in China, FINC 752 will take students to three cities in China – Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong.  Students will experience lectures on the Chinese economy and financial services industry, field visits to various institutions and companies, and cultural immersion through exploration of significant historic sites, local cuisine, language, ceremonies and customs. The academic content will cover the entire spectrum of financial services including commercial and investment banking, stock and bond markets, financial intermediaries, consumer-finance companies, asset management, mutual funds, insurance, hedge funds, real estate, and venture capital.

Beijing, the capital and the second largest city in China, is the nation’s political, cultural and educational center. Shanghai, called the Paris of the East, is China’s biggest city. It is a global financial center and a transport hub with the world's busiest container port. Hong Kong, a former British colony, is a major port and a global financial center. It is also ranked as the world’s freest economy. These three cities combined will give students an unparalleled educational and cultural experience of China.

Global Financial Services blends academic content with field visits and cultural experiences to provide a unique and enriching study-abroad experience. A carefully integrated set of lectures and site visits give students the most intensive and interesting inquiry into the workings of financial services industry in China. Embedded cultural visits and experience will make this one of the memorable adventures that will open your eyes and heart to become a world explorer and a global citizen.

The class will be led by Lalith Samarakoon, Professor of Finance in the Opus College of Business.
